Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025

Every year, Diwali brings with it the tradition of Muhurat Trading – a special one-hour session on the stock exchanges that marks a fresh start for investors. Considered highly auspicious, many traders and families buy shares during this window as a symbolic gesture of prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.

For 2025, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced some changes that make this year’s Muhurat Trading a little different. Here’s everything you should know.

Market Context in 2025

Indian markets in 2025 have been underperforming compared to global peers. FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investors) have withdrawn around ₹1.4 lakh crore so far this year. Domestic investors, however, continue to show resilience. Muhurat Trading is expected to bring optimism and symbolic fresh beginnings, even if not heavy on actual turnover. But Muhurat Trading offers a breather from that gloom. It’s a moment where optimism takes center stage, and investors look forward to better times in the year ahead.

When is Muhurat Trading 2025?

This year, Muhurat Trading will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, which coincides with Diwali – Lakshmi Puja day.

Pre-open session: 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM

Muhurat Trading session: 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM

Closing session: 2:45 PM – 3:00 PM

Unlike previous years when this session took place in the evening, 2025 will see it happening in the afternoon.

Why is Muhurat Trading Special?

Muhurat Trading isn’t about big volumes or major deals. Instead, it’s about tradition, positivity, and starting the new year on a prosperous note. Many traders perform Lakshmi Puja in their offices before placing their first trades of the session. Families often buy a handful of shares as a token investment, believing it will invite wealth and success. Even though the actual trading volume is usually low, the sentiment is upbeat. For investors, it’s less about the numbers and more about the symbolism.

What Should Investors Do?

While seasoned traders may use this session to test strategies or place symbolic bets, most investors treat it as a ritual of goodwill rather than a time for aggressive investing. If you plan to participate:

Pick a few quality stocks that you’d like to hold long-term.

Don’t chase quick gains — focus on stability.

Note:- Remember, the session is about sentiment, not speculation.
